Chief Pilot Helicopter Pilot
Description
Position Summary
The Director of Operations / Chief Pilot is responsible for leading all flight operations conducted under FAR Parts 91, 133, 135, and 137 while ensuring full compliance with FAA regulations, company policies, and industry safety standards. Based in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, this leadership position oversees operational readiness, pilot qualifications, training, scheduling, regulatory compliance, Safety Management System (SMS) participation, and FAA coordination while actively serving as a line pilot supporting utility, powerline, aerial firefighting, and external load operations.
Responsibilities
• Oversee all Part 91, 133, 135, and 137 flight operations
• Serve as Chief Pilot in accordance with FAR Part 119 requirements
• Maintain and update the General Operations Manual (GOM), Operations Specifications (Ops Specs), and operational documentation
• Manage pilot qualifications, training, scheduling, and operational readiness
• Serve as the primary liaison with the FAA
• Conduct utility helicopter, powerline, aerial firefighting, and external load flight operations
• Participate in pilot training, standardization, and compliance oversight
• Support and promote the company’s Safety Management System (SMS)
• Coordinate with maintenance and safety departments
• Ensure compliance with all applicable FAA regulations and company policies
• Perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements
• FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate – Rotorcraft Helicopter
• Current FAA Class I or Class II Medical Certificate
• Minimum 3 of the previous 6 years operating under FAR Part 135 and/or previous Chief Pilot experience
• Extensive utility helicopter experience
• Aerial firefighting experience
• Extensive external load experience
• Substantial long-line experience
• Experience operating Bell 407 and Bell 212 helicopters
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to relocate to the Coeur d’Alene/Hayden, Idaho or Spokane Valley area
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous FAR Part 135 Chief Pilot experience
• Extensive powerline operations experience
• Strong FAA regulatory and compliance experience
