Captain Helicopter Pilot
Description
Position Summary
The Pilot in Command (PIC) reports directly to the Chief Pilot or Assistant Chief Pilot and is responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of flight assignments. The PIC serves as the final authority regarding aircraft operations and regulatory compliance while ensuring adherence to company policies, FAA regulations, and customer requirements.
Responsibilities
• Ensure the safe and efficient conduct of all assigned flight operations.
• Maintain supervisory responsibility of field crews and copilots.
• Issue directives and notices to flight crews as required.
• Assist with on-the-job training, PIC upgrade training, flight base audits, inspections, and other aviation duties as assigned.
• Participate in pilot training when qualified.
• Actively support and participate in the company Safety Management System (SMS).
• Review flight assignments and obtain required briefing information.
• Prepare or supervise preparation of flight plans.
• Ensure aircraft are properly inspected, equipped, loaded, and manned for assigned missions.
• Verify crew compliance with duty and flight time limitations.
• Ensure required forms, equipment, and materials are onboard prior to flight.
• Record and report mechanical irregularities and discrepancies.
• Verify maintenance discrepancies have been corrected or deferred in accordance with approved procedures.
• Exercise Pilot in Command authority and responsibility in accordance with FAR 91.3.
• Make operational and weather-related decisions as the final authority on assigned flights.
Requirements
• Minimum 3,500 hours total flight time.
• Minimum 2,500 hours Pilot in Command time.
• Minimum 1,500 hours turbine time.
• Must satisfy applicable USFS hour requirements.
• USFS aerial firefighting experience in helicopters.
• Maintain a Second Class Medical Certificate.
• Thorough knowledge of FAA regulations, Operations Specifications, Flight Manuals, company manuals, and operating procedures.
• Vertical Reference proficiency.
• NVG qualified.
• Available for domestic and international assignments.
• Ability to work in austere field environments.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
• CH-47D (BV234) Type Rating.
• Tandem rotor flight experience.
